@TapeModern

THIS is the best car IN THE WORLD!!

This 1.6 Ford Fiesta ‘Zetec S’ is the best car in the world, now i shall justify why.

1. Handling. I’ve driven a lot of different cars and the MK5 Fiesta is the best! It has almost 50/50 weight distribution, weighty and quick steering, a notchy gearbox and a range of peppy engines.

2. The engine. This particular (1.6) engine is very revy and suitably powerful, whilst vibration and harshness aren’t exactly perfect, there’s a LOT of go for such a nimble car.

3. Space. This is a very very small car, but i’ve moved house twice in my own MK5 and it’s big enough, also very easy to park even in the smallest of spaces.

4. Simple. A very simple mechanical design for the body and engine, you could service and repair this car yourself or cheaply at a mechanics as Ford parts are cheap and plentiful. There is also no equipment so there’s nothing to go wrong.

5. Looks. This car doesn’t look modern or up to date, but most importantly it’s simple shape is ageing very well, especially if you have one in silver.

6. Reliability. These MK5s are notoriously reliable, mostly because this body shape had been used by Ford since the late 80s, with minor tweaks being made to the body panels every 7 years or so up to 2002. The engines are supremely reliable and cheap to fix.

7. The cost. This very car is for sale right now for £2,495.00 with 75k miles. That’s £2,495 for a fast, brilliantly handling and reliable car

These are the reasons that the MK5 Ford Fiesta MK5 Zetec S, is the best car in the real world (in my biased, and skewed mind).

Swagger Jagger

The worst thing i have ever heard. That’s my take on this vile, extraneous, confused, self proclaiming, self important, monotonous dross.

Not only is this the worst song i have ever heard, it is the worst sound i have ever heard.

I’ve given the ‘song’ a fair few listens - trying to find something meaningful or at least interesting in the lyrics and the music, alas nothing - not even a good rhythm or pattern.

That would be in part because the ‘song’ is so confused and disjointed that a meaningful or pleasant tune would be difficult if not impossible to fit in there.

The largest problem with this piece is however, it’s lack of any substance - it seems almost like a totally random string of words, brutally and clumsily stapled together in the vague hope of some wretched outcome.

Of course in reality none of this matters - morons will buy this and it’s hideous forthcoming siblings by the bucket load.

Obscure but priceless :D

Team Orders

Not for the first time, this weekend I was once again confused and bemused by the principal of what some people call ‘team orders’ in Formula 1 racing.

Team orders is the way in which a team tells their drivers what to do, this usually refers to a driver moving out of the way of another driver of the same team or holding distance between drivers of the same team.

This weekend at the excellent British Grand Prix, it looked like Sebastian Vettel was to take 2nd position (just behind Fernando Alonso) however with about 2 laps to go his Red Bull team mate Mark Webber had closed the gap between himself and his Red Bull team mate. From my point of view as a spectator this looked to be an electric finale with the possibility of Webber taking 2nd. But then as the two were feet apart the team radio came over the air the voice clearly saying ‘Mark, hold the gap’ or words to that effect. The team principal Christian Horner had ordered Mark Webber to hold position and not aim for the overtake. This order meant that Webber did not take 2nd thus generating more points in the Driver’s Championship.

The justification came from the team principal, who seemed to allude that this was a team decision and had to be respected for ‘the team’ as if the two had collided Red Bull would not receive any points if the cars were to crash out of the race. Now I don’t know Christian Horner but I assume that he cannot see into the future, and therefore foresee a massive accident happening.

After the race it came out that Webber had been ordered about 4 or 5 times to back off, but he was understandably resisting this. As a racing driver he undoubtedly wants to race. As we don’t have access to Mark’s contract with Red Bull we can’t see if he is required to allow Vettel to effectively take the stance of number 1 driver.

I have come to the conclusion that Christian Horner decided to extend Vettel’s points lead to make him more valuable as both a driver for the Red Bull team and as a commercial object used to produce money for the team to use in order to further extend their dominance as arguably the best team right now in F1.

The question over all of this is, should these orders be allowed under FIA regulations (the people who regulate F1 racing), it has been banned in the past but teams got around it by using code words over team radio, so it would seem this to be an insufficent solution.

The conclusion has to be that in modern racing, the drivers are a commodity at the beck and call of the sponsors, who must act as the team principal decides. After all in modern racing there is a huge team behind the driver who need those wins to pay their wages and develop new cars. For the prospect of ‘real racing’ you must look to the amateur racing scene where drivers are permitted to just drive without the constraints of sponsors and others relying on race results like a vast commercial soup.
